Automotive Controller Position Available in Various Auto Dealership Locations in North Carolina

The controller contributes to the accurate presentation of the company’s financial statements, enforces controls for compliance, and carries out the tasks required to achieve these objectives. They oversee cash management, factory receivables, reserves, as well as the remittance of Finance Products and the cancellation of products.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure daily recording and depositing of bank transactions, including ACH and wire transfers.
  • Reconcile all bank accounts daily.
  • Post and revise monthly standard entries by the 15th of each month.
  • Maintain fixed asset schedules to match related general ledger accounts.
  • Collaborate with office staff to complete assignments promptly and consistently.
  • Generate reports upon request from the management company or department managers.
  • Prepare tax reports in a timely manner, such as sales tax, tire disposal tax, lease tax, and tangible personal property taxes.
  • Execute end-of-month procedures accurately and on time. Provide precise and punctual financial statement reports monthly as mandated by the franchisor and management company.
  • Review and maintain all accounting schedules monthly.
  • Complete all account reconciliations monthly, including floor plan, bank, finance reserves, manufacturer’s statements, and accounts payable.
  • Report and remit all finance product sales documents monthly, such as warranties and GAP policies.
  • Ensure that checks for accounts payable are dispatched by the 15th of each month.
  • Provide recommendations to enhance office operational efficiency.
  • Conduct weekly meetings with company managers to discuss expenses, processing issues, the status of outstanding contracts, vehicle receivables, accounts receivables, and rebate/incentive receivables, among others.
  • Support the CFO and dealership managers in budget preparation.
  • Verify that Monthly Parts accounts are reconciled and submitted to the CFO.
  • Confirm that Monthly Physical inventories are conducted and reported to the CFO and Variable Operations Director.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of title work.
  • Guarantee daily stocking of vehicle inventory upon receipt.
  • Ensure daily processing and accounting posting of vehicle sales, service, parts, and body shop sales.
  • Inspect outstanding repair orders (WIP) to ensure they are closed promptly. Service department repair orders should remain open no longer than three working days. Body shop tickets will require an inquiry to determine the job’s status.
  • Check open parts tickets to ensure they are closed within two days.
  • Direct sales managers to perform a physical inventory of vehicles each month and reconcile it with the general ledger.
  • Ensure monthly accounts receivable statements are sent promptly each month (including inter-company) and oversee the collection of outstanding accounts.
  • Ensure reconciliation of WIP.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

  • A minimum of five years’ experience as a controller in an automotive dealership is required.
  • Prior experience with the CDK DMS system, including Payroll Plus, is preferred.
