Lubricates the moving parts of vehicles.

Automotive Lube Technician – Essential Duties

  • Conducts work as detailed in the repair order, efficiently and accurately, adhering to dealership and factory standards.
  • Offers lubrication, safety inspections, and other related services.
  • Keeps records of regular customers, providing periodic follow-ups via phone, mail, or personal reminders.
  • Empties and refills the crankcase with the prescribed amount of oil.
  • Changes oil and air filters.
  • Checks and adjusts vehicle fluid levels as needed.
  • Monitors tire pressure and inflates tires when necessary.
  • Applies specified lubricants to moving parts.
  • Coordinates with the parts department to secure necessary components.
  • Informs supervisor about any machinery defects or malfunctions.
  • Records all tasks completed on the repair order.
  • Engages in manufacturer-sponsored training as directed by the service manager.
  • Stays informed about manufacturer technical bulletins.
  • Guarantees the cleanliness of customers’ vehicles. Immediately informs the service advisor of any changes to the vehicle’s appearance or condition.
  • Maintains a tidy workshop area.
  • Is responsible for all dealership-owned tools and manuals, ensuring their return in good condition.
  • Remains informed and compliant with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal and OSHA Right-to-Know.
  • Uses all tools and equipment safely.
  • Promptly reports any safety concerns to management.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Automotive Lube Technician – Education and/or Experience

  • A high school diploma or a General Education Degree (GED) is required; alternatively, one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

  • The ability to read and understand simple instructions, brief correspondence, and memos is essential. Writing simple correspondence is also necessary. One should be able to effectively convey information in individual and small group settings to customers, clients, and fellow employees.

Writing routine reports and correspondence is a part of this skill set. Additionally, speaking effectively to groups of customers or organization employees is crucial.

  • The capability to add and subtract two-digit numbers, as well as to multiply and divide by 10s and 100s. The ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division across all units of measure, utilizing whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
