In your role as Parts Manager, you are tasked with overseeing the Parts department to ensure its efficient operation, thereby supporting the dealership’s commitment to delivering world-class service. Your management will influence whether we become our guests’ preferred destination for purchasing, leasing, or servicing their vehicles.

  • Oversees external parts and counter sales initiatives, including a telemarketing program to maintain customer engagement.
  • Reviews sales, expenses, and inventory monthly to achieve profit targets.
  • Assesses and updates departmental operations and storage arrangements for optimal efficiency.
  • Recruits, educates, inspires, advises, and evaluates the performance of the parts department staff.
  • Develops and manages an annual operating budget for the parts department.
  • Ensures inventory levels meet the needs of the service department, body shop, wholesale accounts, and retail customers.
  • Sets and pursues departmental goals and objectives.
  • Establishes pricing parameters in each customer category that generate sufficient gross profit and produce a satisfactory profit while maintaining customer loyalty
  • Establishes individual parts inventory levels and balances them for maximum turnover
  • Ensures that parts inventory turns
  • Monitors and adjusts inventory to minimize obsolescence
  • Ensures all parts are properly tagged so that the dealership recovers full credit from the factory
  • Supervises stock order procedures
  • Sets and enforces a policy on the special ordering of parts
  • Provides technical assistance to parts department employees
  • Monitors parts department employees’ payroll records
  • Coordinates a prompt, efficient, and timely flow of paperwork
  • Directs shipping and receiving efforts to ensure timely processing
  • Develops and utilizes a lost sales tracking report
  • Develops sales promotions
  • Takes advantage of all manufacturers’ inventory co-op advertising
  • Develops, enforces, and monitors guidelines for working with customers to ensure maximum customer satisfaction.
  • Handles customer complaints immediately and according to the dealership’s guidelines
  • Ensures that all dealership purchases are properly accounted for before payment is made
  • Enforces safety requirements, including but not limited to forklift training and operation, processing of MSDS sheets on all products carried, and OSHA Right-to-Know
  • Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations that may affect parts sales
  • Understand the importance of teamwork and communication in fixed operations

Skills Needed to Win:

  • Experienced as a parts manager in an automotive parts department
  • Two years of experience in a supervisory role
  • Strong communication and managerial skills
  • Proficient in running the department profitably in accordance with dealership guidelines
  • Experience in a thriving automotive wholesale parts operation
  • Experience with the brand(s) represented by the dealership
  • Proficiency with the EPC for the brands represented by the dealership
