The service technician is responsible for comprehensive bumper-to-bumper maintenance and repairs for vehicles at our dealership. This crucial role ensures that customers receive top-quality service, guaranteeing their vehicles remain safe and comfortable to drive. In turn, this high standard of work fosters exceptional customer satisfaction and encourages long-term customer loyalty.

Essential Functions

  • Manages a variety of general repair and replacement tasks, including brake pads and shoes, tires, wheel alignment, steering and suspension parts, wheel bearings, exhaust systems, heating and cooling systems, air conditioning, drivetrains, and accessory installations.
  • Conducts maintenance services such as oil changes, fluid exchanges, filter replacements, fuel system services, preventative maintenance, and belt and hose replacements.
  • Performs evaluations, such as charging system analysis, brake inspections, fluid leak assessments, and tire pressure and tread depth measurements.
  • Carries out visual safety and courtesy inspections.
  • Diagnoses and resolves issues with emissions control systems, drivability concerns, overheating, ABS and SRS systems, and electrical and air conditioning systems.
  • Undertakes advanced repair and replacement tasks, including timing belts, intake manifold gaskets, head gaskets, brake hydraulics, rear main seals, clutches, axle bearings, steering gears, sensors, switches, and modules.
  • Ensures all work meets factory specifications for repair, service, and customization.
  • Strives for and maintains optimal productivity levels.
  • Receives and prioritizes service assignments from service writers or managers.
  • Completes repair work within the designated timeframe.
  • Sets personal goals, refines skills, and consistently enhances efficiency.
  • Submits parts requests promptly upon determining job requirements.
  • Keeps service writers or managers informed of additional work needed or any delays, ensuring customers receive timely updates.
  • Assists service advisors with writing work orders, conducting test rides, interacting with customers, and other tasks to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Completes and files all necessary paperwork after each job.
  • Stays up-to-date with technical qualifications through required training.
  • Ensures vehicles are cleaner upon job completion than when received.
  • Thoroughly completes each job to minimize return repairs, addressing any additional work efficiently and positively.
  • Provides reliable service to all customers, both external and internal.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area, contributing to overall shop cleanliness.
  • Performs duties safely, reporting any accidents, injuries, or unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Arrives on time for scheduled work, prepared to perform essential job functions.
  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.
  • Troubleshoots transmission issues using diagnostic equipment like scan tools or torque converters to identify problems and determine solutions.
  • Reads technical manuals and instructions to determine correct repair steps or diagnose vehicle problems.
  • Inspects vehicle components such as clutches, brakes, and electrical parts for wear or damage.
  • Examines parts for defects and performs basic repairs, including oil changes and spark plug replacements.
  • Installs new transmission components such as fluid lines or filters to repair vehicles.
  • Analyzes computer data to identify problems with transmission operation.
  • Conducts maintenance on transmission components like fluid lines or filters to repair vehicles.

Requirements

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in an automotive technician or mechanic role.
  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • ASE certification is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Must possess a valid U.S. Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
  • Proven ability to quickly learn new technologies and processes, and adapt to changes.
  • Innovative problem-solving skills and the ability to introduce new ideas.
  • Strong attention to detail when following oral and written instructions.
  • Demonstrated capability to manage multiple priorities, organize workload efficiently, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience working collaboratively in team settings to achieve common goals.

  • Basic proficiency in the English language.
